Welcome to the Pixelgrinder workshop
Pixelgrinder reached a point where it needed a proper home online.
Social media is all well + good, but there is more to say about this project than Instagram allows. This site exists to give the project some structure.
It’s a reflection of how far things have come + a way to formalise what’s been learned along the way. A hub to gather notes, decisions, mistakes, + useful information....a record + knowledgebase to share
The aim is clarity over polish. LED systems are already confusing enough without adding unnecessary mystery.
Let me show you around
We already have plenty for you to check out, including information about our launch LED system, a free to download data pack to help you DIY your own panels, Workshop Notes covering technical topics, terminology, + LED musings, + above all some excellent vibes!
Workshop Notes
This is the heart of the site.
The Workshop Notes are a place to document progress, they will grow + change as the project does.
They’re split into a few loose categories:
Build Diaries
Documenting time in the workshop, building panels, trying new stuff out, having a fun creative time.
Technical Notes
Clear explanations of terminology, standards, + common points of confusion. These exist as much for future me as for anyone new to LED systems!
Behind the Scenes
Process, tooling, constraints, + the less visible parts of running the project.
Product Updates
Notes on new + upcoming panels, screens, + kits as they take shape.
Guides
More structured, practical walkthroughs so we can build something awesome together.
Our PSLED01 Modular System
The reason the project, + this website, exist is because of the LED panels we've been designing + prototyping.
Currently there is just the one panel type, + as a system it's got a bit more refinement coming very soon.
As we tinker away in the workshop there will be more LED panels, screens, + systems added. We want to make LED's accessible to as many people as possible, lighting up the world one panel at a time!
Everything is a work in progress
In my experience there is never an end point with creative projects, just a milestone that leads to new paths forward. Pixelgrinder is very definitely one of these projects, endless routes to pick from + things to try out at every turn.
We are in a state on constant improvement + iteration - it's how we designed our panels, it's how we approach our projects, + it's how we are building this site! Because of this the media on the site, the Workshop Notes, the vlogs, + the guides will improve over time.
My knowledge is a work in progress + the site is a work in progress, with the aim to let them both grow alongside the project in an organic way.
Core values
At Pixelgrinder we are committed to knowledge sharing, promoting creativity, life-long learning, + skill sharing.
We are about making LED systems more approachable + being open about process. We are about building cool stuff + getting people pumped about building their own cool stuff.
We are excited for you to engage with us in whatever way resonates with you....whether you get some value from a Workshop Note, buy some panels, use our guides to inform your own build, follow along with workshop vlogs, build one of out kits, or borrow an idea.
